DESPERATE for cash, Stephen Reid is adamant on getting his hands on Audrey Roberts’ fortune.
The businessman comes up with a plan to take over her finances next week in Coronation Street.
But in upcoming scenes of the Manchester-based soap, the hairdresser portrayed by Sue Nicholls gets a quick glimpse at his intentions.
She first calls at No.8 and announces her plans to give the salon a complete makeover with no expense spared, despite her initial reluctance to reopen the business.
Stephen later tells Ken Barlow and Rita Tanner about his mother’s plans and he realises they know more than they’re letting on.
This prompts him to grill Audrey, most notably on her recent trip to hospital after her overdose.
While Stephen may believe she’s encountering major health issues, keeping his eyes on the prize, Audrey lies and makes out she had a minor scare.
Her family knows nothing about her suicide attempt.
Scared he might miss out on some of her cash, Stephen suggests it would be a good time for her to sign the trust fund paperwork but she insists she’s in no rush.

Viewers will remember how Audrey, believing she was only able to trust him, decided to open up a trust fund and hand it over to him, much to her grandchildren’s dismay.
Some fans have noticed this could have some major repercussions on her family and finances as Stephen is clearly hiding financial woes of his own.
This becomes even clearer next week when, in the Underworld factory, Michael Bailey points out that the website needs updating.
Sarah Platt asserts she’ll give Lorenzo a call but Stephen offers to do the work himself with some help from Max.
