The contestants this year include the likes of Love Island’s Liberty Poole, Pussycat Dolls’ Kimberly Wyatt, Ex-Strictly dancer Brendan Cole, Happy Mondays star Bez and former S Club 7 singer Rachel Stevens.

Each week they will skate live with their professional partners in a bid to impress both the panel and the viewers who will ultimately decide who wins the show.

Wearing an array of colourful and glittering costumes, the celebrities are all smiles in their photos, but behind the scenes they all admitted to having some fears about the ice.

Pussycat Doll Kimberly is following in the footsteps of bandmate Melody Thornton, who participated in the 2019 series of the show.

Kimberly found herself in hot water after it emerged that she wasn’t quite a novice on the ice – having trained in speed skating after participating in reality show The Jump in 2014.

However, she insisted in an interview with Heart Radio that she doesn’t have “much skating experience” and is “pretty rubbish”.

Meanwhile, Coronation Street star Sally wants to be “an inspiration to older women” when she appears on the show – but is scared about being in the spotlight.

The 58-year-old actress, known to fans as the ambitious Sally Webster in the ITV soap, said: “If you get any opportunity to do anything just go for it.

“I still feel like I’m 21, not 58, so I just think you’ve got to take every opportunity.

“Now my children have grown up it’s much easier. I am a hands-on mum but I just feel like this is my time.”

Off-screen, Sally is married to Emmerdale scriptwriter Tim Dynevor and was followed into acting by her daughter Phoebe, 26, who is the star of Netflix series Bridgerton.

Speaking about her character on Corrie, whom she has played since 1986, she said: “I like the idea of people seeing me for who I am after all these years.

“I’m quite private and I’m not very good at putting my head above the parapet so this, for me, is massive.

“That scares me a little bit because I’m very used to hiding behind a character and just being part of Coronation Street but it will be nice for people to see me as me and not as my character.”

Rugby ace Ben Foden is no stranger to ITV talent shows, having taken part in Celebrity X Factor.

On taking to the ice, sportsman Ben told ITV he’s worried he won’t be any good at it.

He said:  “I used to skate a little when I was a kid.

“I’d go to ice discos when I was 15, 16 (years old) and you’d always see these kids that could do pirouettes that had a proper dancing background.

“I like the idea of learning a new sport and a new skill.”

“I’m quite competitive as well so I like the challenge of competing against others doing something that I’m not necessarily good at!”

Dancing On Ice launches on Sunday January 16 at 6.30pm.
