A POWERFUL earthquake rocked South Carolina as buildings were seen shaking near a busy highway.
The US Geological Survey received almost 3,000 reports of people feeling the tremor, from across Richland, Kershaw, and Lexington Counties and as far north as Charlotte, Noord-Carolina.
A smaller aftershock shook the area about 14 minutes later at 2.57pm, which was recorded as a 2.6 magnitude quake.
Residents in the area took to Twitter to voice their concerns, as one person said they felt their building “shake” right near Interstate 20.
“Definitely just felt the whole building shake off I-20 and Monticello and my wife said our house shook in Irmo,” the man said.
Another resident shared: “Definitely felt it [aardbewing] on the Southside. Thought it was thunder until the ground shook.”
“Felt it over by Ridge View High! I thought someone hit my car,” a third person said.
The shake in South Carolina comes hours after another earthquake was reported near the North Carolina and South Carolina state lines on Tuesday.
The USGS said the 2.1 magnitude earthquake happened at 4.12am about two miles from Hendersonville, NC.
