Hierdie week, George, 60, was caught up in floods and mudslides that left 60 people homeless.

Trees, cars, rocks and debris swept past Villa Oleandra, where he is staying with wife Amal and children in Laglio on Italy’s Lake Como.

Officials estimate the final repair bill will be up to £50million.

The Hollywood actor has been helping.

Mayor Roberto Pozzi said yesterday: “Through his contacts George has promised to help us reconstruct and rebuild.

“His help shows just how much he has our village in his heart.

“You could see he was deeply touched and he wanted to know how he could help.”
