It’s understood travellers are not being allowed through security after the suspicious item was found in a passengers bag at around 6am this morning.
Police confirmed they are currently on the scene and the terminal has been locked down as a precaution.
Photos from the scene show a large emergency service presence including the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
The terminal has been closed down but is not understood to have been evacuated.
And photos from inside the airport show queue chaos as thousands of travellers are stranded at check-in desks unable to proceed through the terminal.
It’s understood a bomb disposal unit is now on the scene.
