GOGGLEBOX fans’ hearts went out to Pete Sandiford last night as he was left sobbing on the sofa.
Er, sister Sophie and many other stars of the Kanal 4 show were in tears at a particularly emotional edition of Die Reparaturwerkstatt.
Many viewers felt exactly the same telling Pete auf Twitter: “Ja, sat here wiping my eyes” und “Brought me to tears 😢.”
The cast saw Gary Fisher bring a Jewish prayer book owned by his grandparents into The Repair Shop’s barn.
They had taken it with them when they were captured and taken to one of Hitler’s concentration camps in what was then Czechoslovakia.
Gary explained: “Unglücklicherweise, my great grandparents, my grandfather’s sister, one of them, a 10-year-old nephew, they all went to the gas chamber. My grandparents were lucky.”

Er fügte hinzu: “My grandfather wrote a poem, but when they were liberated, he asked people [survivors] that were liberated to sign the book, so there are about 50 signatures.”
Pete was emotional from the start, as Gary returned to The Repair Shop to see the book after being restored.
He told sister Sophie: “Why am I already welling up here? I’ve not even seen the bloody book.”
letztes Jahr, als sie einem Kumpel antwortete, der sagte, sie habe einen tollen Abend auf Twitter verpasst: “That’s sent you under, hasn’t it? Awww.”

And Sophie eventually cracked herself at Gary’s overwhelmed reaction to the beautifully-restored book, sighing: “Gott, he is breaking my heart, him.”
Gary opened up about his family’s tragic past on The Repair Shop, erklärend: “Theresienstadt was a concentration camp that was used to try and show the world that they weren’t being treated as badly as they were.
“And yet, a mile further down, they were being gassed. Er [Hitler] was trying to hide the fact that they were murdering and killing people and that’s where a lot of my family went.”
