MICHAEL Gove is backing underdog Rishi Sunak to be the next PM.
The former levelling up chief – who formerly backed rising star, Kemi Badenoch – said Rishi would do what was best for the country, not his career.
And he admitted that his career in frontline politics with a string of top Cabinet jobs, was now over.
It comes despite several polls putting Foreign Secretary Ms Truss firmly in the lead to steal the Tory crown.
Ele disse: “I believe they will vote for Rishi as… only he can deliver what he has promised.”
Mr Gove lashed out at Ms Truss’ plans as not the “right priority” – saying it “can’t be right” to reject giving more hand outs during the cost of living crisis.
