RESIDENTS are being told to shelter-in-place if they live within a mile of a Covington chemical plant in Kentucky.

Similar Chemicals, a plant, had a fire around 9pm, according to Kenton County Dispatch. The plant is located in the Latonia neighborhood.

Video from a resident’s porch camera shows the moments after a loud boom was heard in the area near the plant.

“Like something blew up,” the resident could be heard saying. “It was not like a car crash…something blew up.”

A “code red” alert was issued for residents shortly before 8:30Uhr, according to dispatch.

Crews were at the scene of the fire as of 10:30Uhr.

No one was believed to be in the plant at the time of the explosion, according to Kentucky County dispatch.

Both Covington and Fort Wright authorities were called to the scene, WLWT Berichte.

Gemäß WCPO, Kenton County dispatchers confirmed people within one mile of Interplastic Corporation were urged to stay inside until given anall clear.

The news outlet noted there are multiple homes and businesses in the nearby area.

Interplastic Corporation’s website dubs the company as having beenan industry leader in thermoset resin, gel coat, colorant, and putty research, Entwurf, and development since 1959.

A shelter-in-place order was previously issued in connection to the chemical plant back in March 2019.

When that incident occurred, Covington, Kentucky Government took to Facebook to say: “‘Shelter in placemeans to go inside, shut your doors and windows, and turn off any ventilation drawing air in from the outside.
