Ho comprato il pasto della mia ragazza per £ 1,49, ma potremmo avere una fortuna

A COUPLE have been left stunned after finding a fortune while out for a romantic meal.

Joe Beveridge, 33, had taken Emiliana Ammirata, 26, on a weekend away in Orford, Suffolk when they made the lucky find in a local seafood restaurant.

The pair had been hoping for a cosy getaway, but could never have dreamed of what it would bring.

Loved-up Joe had ordered some oysters, often fabled to be an aphrodisiac, when Emiliana found a precious pearl inside one of the molluscs.

Joe ha detto: “Emi was eating her oyster and noticed what she thought was a bit of grit in her mouth.

She almost swallowed it, but luckily, we realised before she did.

Pearls can be worth millions depending on their quality and the chance of finding one like this was described as ‘one in 10,000’.

In 2018 un diner in New York found one in a similar way, which was worth £3,000.

Rick Antosh, 66, thought he needed to see a dentist when he found the pearl, believed it to be a dislodged filling.

Joe and Emiliana are still in the process of getting their pearl valued.

Oysters grow the rare gems as a defence against parasites.

Joe added: “We were in shock. I wasn’t aware you could find pearls in oysters over the counter.

But we were also struck by how beautiful it was, the colour is incredible.

Amazingly, the six oysters they bought were just £1.49 each.

The astonished boyfriend wants to get the pearl set in a necklace for his lady love and has found a jeweller who can do it.

Bill Pinney, owner of Pinney’s restaurant, said the oysters are farmed on site and are then served in his restaurant or sold from his shop or to other eateries.

Ha aggiunto: “It is quite unusual, but you do occasionally find them.

It has happened a few times, I would say, with oysters that we produce.

Bill explained that the most valuable pearls tend to come from oysters bred in the Indian Ocean.
