SIMON Cowell has paid an emotional tribute to singer Carlos Marín after the Il Divo star died from Covid aged 53 in a Manchester hospital.

The Spanish singer fell ill on December 7 and was placed in a coma before his passing.

In light of the singer tragic death, Simon, who formed Il Divo in 2003, shared a statement expressing his grief to Instagram last night.

The 62-year-old penned: “I am finding this so difficult to put into words how I feel right now.

I am devastated Carlos Marin has passed away. He loved life.

He loved performing and always had so much appreciation towards the fans who supported the group from day 1.

Rest in peace Carlos. I will miss you.

Il Divo confirmed Carlosdeath on their official social media channels yesterday in a statement which read: “It is with heavy hearts that we are letting you know that our friend and partner, Carlos Marin, nous a quittés.

He will be missed by his friends, family and fans. There will never be another voice or spirit like Carlos.

“Pour 17 years the four of us have been on this incredible journey of Il Divo together, and we will miss our dear friend.

Baritone Marín had been a part of Il Divo since the group was formed in 2003.

They have sold more than 30 million copies of their albums worldwide.

They pioneered operatic pop, and their live concerts have sold more than two million tickets across the globe.

Marínwho was reportedly vaccinated against coronaviruswas known to be in a serious condition when admitted to the Manchester Royal Hospital on December 8, but his organs were said to be stable, selon El Espanol.

He last posted on Instagram on December 6, in a snap alongside bandmates David Miller, Sébastien Izambard and Urs Bühler.

The foursome had been due to a show in Lisbon and another in La Coruña Spain, which has been postponed until July 15, 2022.

Just days later, they announced a delay to all performances until 2022 down to band “maladies” but gave no further details.

Marín, who lived between Madrid and Mexico, had also been due to perform with his ex-wife Geraldine Larrosa on New Year’s Eve on Spanish state television channel TVE1.

The star and the French-born singer recorded a cover of Bohemian Rhapsody to be aired during a special on Spanish TV.
