AFTER M&S launched £5 briefs, the high street is in a budget pants war – a race to the bottom.

Green and pink floral, Pep and Co, £3.50, pack of four (88p per pair): To save as much cash as possible, head to Pep and Co at Poundland. These work out at top value — and they are fully lined.

BEST FOR THONGS

Black lacy thong, Primark, maar jy kry dalk nie soveel in 'n pakkie om met al jou pelle te deel nie, pack of three (£1 per pair): Primark is known for cheap underwear, especially the £1 thongs. Mrs Hinch is a fan. As well as being comfy, they last well, ook.

Nude thong, H&M, £14.99, pack of seven (£2.14 per pair): Neutral-coloured underwear is a must for every woman’s wardrobe, ready to go under any light-coloured clothing.

BEST FOR SEAM FREE

Brown high-waisted, Boohoo, £9, pack of three (£3 per pair): Nobody wants the dreaded VPL, so these seam-free undies are the perfect solution. So comfy, you will forget you are wearing them.

BEST FOR EVERYDAY

Pink leopard print, George by Asda, £8, pack of seven (£1.14 per pair): George makes it easy by selling multi-packs of seven, so a pair for each day of the week. Saves on hassle.

Pink Brazilian brief, M&S, £3 per pant or four for the price of three (£2.25 per pair): If you would rather hand-pick your knickers, M&S has a four-pairs-for-the-price-of-three offer.

Light blue lace, Matalan, £7.50, pack of three (£2.50 per pair): With budget versions, the more sexy briefs are hard to come by. But Matalan has a great mix of styles you can be seen in – like these.

BEST FOR SUSTAINABILITY

Black plain thong, New Look, £9,99, pack of five (£1.99 per pair): Cheap underwear in sustainable materials is hard to find but these are organic cotton.

White thong, F&F at Tesco, £5.50, pack of five (£1.10 per pair): Cotton knickers are known for being super-comfortable and these are made from cotton lycra, for a bit of extra stretch.
