A LABOUR MP collapsed sobbing in the dock yesterday as she was cleared of social housing fraud.
Apsana Begum, 31, had blamed her hard-drinking ex-husband for making bids for council homes behind her back.
Supporters of the Poplar and Limehouse MP burst into applause at Snaresbrook crown court in East London.
Outside court, Ms Begum, elected in 2019, said the trial caused “great distress and damage to my reputation”.
Lei disse: “As a survivor of domestic abuse facing these vexatious charges, the last 18 months of false accusations, online sexist, razzistA, and Islamophobic abuse, and threats to my safety, have been exceedingly difficult.”
Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn twittato: “Always knew you to be a woman of amazing strength and fortitude.”
