But the ex-Chancellor’s swipe comes as he admitted he would have to borrow billions to fund a new energy household handout, which team traliccio brands a “whopping U-turn”.

Mr Sunak has announced that every household will benefit from a £200 reduction in their fatture by abolishing VAT on energy at a cost of £5 billion.

In an interview with Times Radio he said: “There are two groups of other people who will need more helppeople on very low incomes and pensioners.
