RISHI Sunak’s Plan for Jobs was boosted yesterday as apprenticeship numbers hit an all-time high.
There are vacancies for 18,950 to begin at-work training this summer, four times more than this time last year.
Many bosses have taken advantage of the offer of £3,000 for every trainee they take on — unveiled in the Chancellor’s spring Budget.
Vacancies have rocketed ahead of the phasing out of the furlough scheme next month.
An extra 5,000 places have been made available in the past two months, figures show.
Treasury bosses believe the boom has been bolstered by an extra £126million in funding for traineeships aimed at helping the Covid-hit economy bounce back.
Providers say it shows more young people are choosing an apprenticeship over a costly three-year university place.
