Some of the Old Trafford crowd turned against him during the Red Devils 1-0 FA Cup win over Aston Villa on Monday night.

All-time Premier League top scorer Shearer watched on from the stands in his role as a BBC pundit.

Now he has called Rashford to offer him his support.

He offered him tips on handling the pressure and expectation that is on his shoulders at the moment and convinced him that he can come through this period in his career.

The Blackburn title winner and Newcastle scoring legend also said he was available at any time to chat if he wanted help in the future.

Shearer, with a record 260 Premier League goals and 63 Inglaterra caps, knows as well as anyone what it is like to be in the spotlight and under pressure.

His call has proved a real pick-me-up for struggling Rashford who has also been phoned by former United and England captain Paul Ince.

Ince, a two-time title winner with United, understands the pressure of having to perform at Old Trafford.

While others are calling for Rashford to be axed Ince insists that Rashford should be kept in the side.

Rashford, 24, is known to be quite shy and Ince feels it is time he was allowed to dictate where he is played in the team.

As it is Rashford feels he is too easily pushed into different positions to accommodate others, which is affecting his own game.

I wouldn’t drop Rashford for Saturday

Paul Ince

Ince said: “When you look at Rashford, he doesn’t look happy. I’m thinking: ‘Why is he not happy?’

“I wouldn’t drop Rashford for Saturday. If that was me, I’d say: ‘Marcus, where do you want to play? Number ten? Left-hand side? Are you not getting enough of the ball? Are you not making the right decisions when you get it? How do you feel?’

But to drop him could impact him more than playing him.”

United manager Ralf Rangnick has been impressed with Rashford in training but says he is at a loss to explain why he cannot transfer that form onto the match-day pitch at the moment.

“Actually I don’t know,” said Rangnick after the Villa game.

“He’s trying hard, he’s in training, he was doing really well in the last couple of days, that’s why he was quite rightly in the starting XI.”

But Rashford’s first-team place is now under threat for Sunday’s away trip to meet Steven Gerrard’s Villa again, this time in the Premier League.

Ambas cosas Cristiano Ronaldo y Jadon Sancho missed the FA Cup win but are expected to be available for selection this weekend.
