Do you dabble with a devilled egg? Maybe you’re a sucker for a Sandwich?
Whether you’re a picnicking veteran or alfresco dining fresher, when it comes to having a picnic in the park, there are a few things that are almost guaranteed to happen.
How many of these picnic in the park events have happened to you?
Picnic in the park bingo
- Something’s been forgotten
This will most likely be the cutlery, plates, cups or napkins. Easy to forget but essential to any picnic that wants to remain civilised.
Hoffentlich, there’s a nearby corner shop or someone is running late and can pick some up on route!
If you’re the member of the picnic planning committee who’s forgotten your assigned item, we hope you’re in the mood for some humble pie as your picnic pudding.
- A dog gatecrashes
They can be fast and stealthy. Everyone likes to stroke a friendly Hund, but these uninvited guests aren’t here to make friends.
They have a mission: infiltrate, get your guard down and make off with the goods.
There’s a scramble to protect the best of the food. You can try to find the owner but they will have vanished into thin air.
That canine culprit will suddenly withdraw as swiftly as they appeared.
- A fizzy drink threatens to fizz everywhere
It’s a fine art, being able to open a fizzy drink and not spill any.
The big bottles have been allowed to roll during transit and they’re now fit to burst.
It’s a waiting game.
The relief when the cap is off and no liquid has spilled is palpable.
- The wasps descend
They weren’t around when you picked the spot or when you first sat down.
jedoch, the moment that Tupperware is opened or food packaging is ripped back, there they are.
This is when you find out which of your fellow picnic pals are good in a crisis.
Someone will scream.
Someone will try to step up and swot, but the terror is written all over their face.
Someone will attempt to catch the wasp in a discarded cup.
- The weather turns
It’s an outdoor event in the UK. No matter how sunny it seems when the picnic starts, the clouds will roll in.
If you’re lucky, the “just in case” jacket / coats will do the trick.
jedoch, there’s also a likelihood that those clouds carry rain. Your only hopes now are either it really is “just a shower” or that the picnic was nearing an end anyway.
- Someone becomes a DJ
If the weather does pull itself together, it’s time to enjoy the great outdoors of the UK.
The grass is green, the birds are singing and everyone is in fabulous summer spirits.
There’s one thing missing – music! One of your party will realise this and insist on whipping out their phone to play some tunes.
Manchmal, just sometimes, someone has had the forethought to bring a Lautsprecher.
Does this sound like the last picnic in the park that you had? Tell us about your outdoor dining experiences in the UK.
We’d love to hear about them!
