SQUID GAME creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed there’s major changes coming for series’ protagonist Seong Gi-hun in season two.
The highly anticipated second season of the hit Korean drama is in the works, but there’ll be big changes for the show’s lead Seong Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae.
At the end of season one, Jung-jae’s character Seong Gi-hun freed himself from the violent and psychological survival competition which had kept him prisoner.
Given the success of Season one, it seems inevitable that there would be a second season of the Netflix公司 展示.
Jung-jae will return as Gi-hun who, having discovered the games are still in play and the mysterious Salesman (Gong Yoo) is involved, will turn his back on his family once again as he tries to uncover what’s going on.
然而, while speaking to THR, Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk teased that the Gi-hun who returns in next season will not be the one that viewers are used to seeing.
The character will essentially be a “totally new person,” Dong-hyuk confirmed.
“The philosophies I put in season one all naturally extend to season two,” the Squid Game creator explained.
“There will naturally be a flow of events that will lead all the way to the end of the season.”
他加了: “I can’t share any details yet, but you know that Seong Gi-hun has become a totally new person by the end of season one.
“So season two is going to be about what that new Gi-hun is going to do and how things will unfold with this new kind of character.”
He’s been completely changed by his experience in the games and has emerged with a more selfless nature, as evidenced by the fact he gave his competitors Cho Sang-woo’s (Park Hae-soo) mother a portion of his prize money.
It seems that this new outlook on humanity is what draws him into this new mystery rather than reuniting with his family.
Dong-hyuk is currently still writing the second season, which he says he plans to finish by the end of the year.
然而, he’s admitted that season one has been a lot to live up to.
“It would be a total lie if I say that I don’t feel any pressure, because so many people are waiting for season two.
“Season one was just too successful not to feel pressured by it,“ 他说.
But he’s found a way to work through that pressure on his own terms.
“Instead of trying to meet the expectations of viewers, I just thought about the last moment when Gi-hun turned away from boarding the plane, and I thought about what he will do next.”
The series creator is just taking his time and trying to enjoy the writing process.
“When I am actually writing the script, I really immerse myself in that world I created, and it feels less daunting to me.
“Once I sit in front of my laptop, I become part of the world that I created and I totally forget about the real world that I’m in.”
Dong-Hyuk is keeping the rest of the details about the second season of the hit show under wraps and viewers shouldn’t expect to see new episodes until later next year.
Season one of Squid Game is available to stream on Netflix.
