THE deputy commander of a nuclear-armed submarine has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a subordinate.
The Navy officer was stripped of his post and frog-marched off base pending an investigation.
The sub’s Executive Officer was accused of assaulting a junior male rating in the latest sex abuse scandal to rock the silent service.
A source said the lieutenant commander was “removed from the submarine without prejudice while investigations continue” and he was helping Royal Navy police with their inquiries.
A Navy spokesman said: “It would not be appropriate to comment.”
It comes days after the head of the Navy Admiral Sir Ben Key ordered an inquiry into “abhorrent” allegations of decade-long abuse on nuclear submarines.
