A PRISON officer at Britain’s toughest jail has been arrested for allegedly providing a false alibi for a murder suspect.
Her lies were said to have been cooked up to help a defendant on trial for allegedly shooting a man in the head.
When they were exposed, the trial collapsed, wasting at least £100,000 of taxpayers’ money.
The female officer was arrested and has been suspended from her job at category A HMP Belmarsh.
一位消息人士说: “This is extremely serious.
“It is alleged she has provided a false alibi to be used in 法庭 to try to prove his innocence.
“The allegations are truly shocking.” The murder trial involved the shooting dead of a man in London in November 2019.
But the officer and the defendant were said to have been in contact at Belmarsh in Thamesmead, 伦敦东南部.
The men’s jail houses some of the country’s most dangerous criminals, including terrorists and gang bosses.
警察 are checking the officer’s wider circle of contacts.
A new trial is scheduled towards the end of next year.
