RESIDENTS have been left furious after the heating in their university rooms hasn’t worked “for YEARS” met 200 students forced to live in freezing temperatures.
Hattie-Mae Farrell, 19, is one of the hundreds of renters forced to heat herself up with ovens after being left without heating and hot water at Westminster University.
The English language and linguistics student said she often can’t sleep or concentrate because it’s so cold in the accommodation – which boasts pool tables and flat-screen TVs in the building.
Furious residents have been forced to heat themselves up with their laptops and sit by ovens in the kitchen in a bid to get warm in the £1,000-a-month rooms.
Bills and utilities are included in the rent on London’s prestigious Marylebone Road, but now the students are demanding money back for the continual boiler issues.
Die 19-jarige, living in Marylebone Hall at Westminster University told The Sun Online: “I’m very cold.
“When I first moved here, I thought something was off with the heating.
“I thought I was the only one, but I spoke to one of my flatmates, who said it’s been going on for three years and they haven’t sorted it.

“She is so fed up. It’s been going on for so long and they haven’t fixed it. And they’re still demanding we pay full rent, which is £12,000 a year.
“I think is ridiculous. They’ve received over 60 emails and they aren’t replying back to people.”
The 19-year-old said that she now get migraines and chills from living in the arctic temperatures.
And the disgruntled residents across the 200 rooms are all facing the same issue – which the University said was caused by an “intermittent fault” in the boiler.
Sy het bygevoeg: “It’s been terrible, everyone is freezing I’ve got a migraine from it, I’ve got chills, people are starting to feel a bit c**p from it.
“It’s happening over the entire halls of residence, we have a group chat, and everyone in the halls have been complaining.”
The freezing students say that the temperature is often as low indoors as it is outdoors, with London dipping below 0C during the night in recent weeks.
And others say that when there’s no heating, they also don’t have any hot water.
The residents have been forced to get creative with how to heat themselves up – by wrapping themselves in layers of blankets and sitting by an open oven.
Hattie-Mae added: “We recently had American students that have just moved here and they’re just horrified. Their first impression isn’t great.
“One person tried to warm herself up with a computer, standing by the oven, anything really.
“They haven’t done anything at all and it’s disgusting. When the heating is off, there isn’t any hot water. I pulled the tap in my bathroom and it was ice cold.
“The kitchen tap is leaking and it hasn’t been fixed at all, and there is mould growing in my bathroom.
“It’s a prestigious university, and it’s terrible really.”
One furious mum Sally Hamilton said her daughter is “getting pneumonia” from the icy temperatures.
Sy het gese: “The heating hasn’t worked for years.
“I’m at my wits end. They’re demanding we pay £1,000 a month for rent and bills, but why would I pay that for my daughter to be getting pneumonia?
“She messages me at 1am to tell me how cold it is and that she can’t sleep.
“The university said the heating was down on November 6, and almost three months on, there’s been no change at all.
“She says she wants to come home because she can’t focus. I think it’s utterly disgraceful.
“Any other landlord would have been taken to court by now.”
A University of Westminster spokesperson said: “The wellbeing of our students is our top priority and we apologise for the disruption caused by an intermittent fault in the boiler function at Marylebone Hall this week.
“We have arranged for engineers to fix any issues as soon as possible.
“Our staff are checking the boiler on a regular basis throughout the day and night to maintain continuity of heating supply and we have made additional portable radiators available to residents if required.”
