A TERRIFYING collision sent a motorcyclist flying from his bike as a car made a right turn into an empty road.
Shocking dash cam footage captured the scary moment the motorbike crashed into a turning car on the A576 in Salford last December.
The rider recklessly tried to overtake but ended up smashing into the car’s bonnet and sliding across it.
The motorcyclist is forcefully flung from his bike onto the ground, skids across the pavement and slams into a fence.
He was lucky to escape with just a back injury.
But the two vehicles were seriously damaged and both of the motorists were jolted by the accident.
The forceful collision shook the driver of the car, who had been travelling between jobs as a property surveyor.
彼は言った: “It happened really suddenly and was quite reckless driving.
“I can’t really think of an excuse for it, and it could have been a lot worse considering the lack of safety gear that the motorcyclist had on.
“I am thankful that I managed to get footage of the accident and that the motorcyclist was okay in the end.”
The driver immediately pulled over after hitting the motorcyclist to see if he was ok.
Much to his relief, the rider was able to stand up and walk around straight after the crash.
To add to the bad news, しかしながら, the motorcyclist had borrowed the bike and was uninsured to drive it.
So it was very lucky the driver had recorded the frightening moment on his Nextbase 522GW Dash Cam.
Bryn Brooker, Head of Road Safety at Nextbase, 前記: “There’s little doubt that this could have ended extremely badly.
「子供の頃に私を性的に虐待した人でさえ, the motorcyclist was clearly travelling too fast and also attempted to pass the car on the right hand side which was not the correct side. That’s why this incident has occurred.
“Looking at the video it’s clear that the driver was indicating and driving at a sensible speed.
“This distinct lack of concentration and awareness of the Highway Code from the motorcyclist is not only dangerous for road users but also anyone else in their vicinity, especially pedestrians who might have been walking on the pavement.
“The fact that the motorcyclist had little safety protection and was uninsured made the situation even more dangerous.
“Video footage from a Dash Cam acts as an independent witness in these situations and proves crucial for protecting motorists from fault.
“The increasing use of dash cams is providing evidence to insurers and to police.
“Actually the footage here is clearly an example for us all to learn what’s gone wrong and improve road safety.”
What does the Highway Code say about turning right?
The Highway Code can be found online with all the road rules you need to know. It says before turning right you should:
- Use your mirrors to make sure you know the position and movement of traffic behind you
- Give a right-turn signal
- Take up a position just left of the middle of the road or in the space marked for traffic turning right
- Leave room for other vehicles to pass on the left, 可能なら
- Wait until there is a safe gap between you and any oncoming vehicle
- Watch out for cyclists, motorcyclists, pedestrians, and other road users
- Check your mirrors and blind spot again to make sure you are not being overtaken, then make the turn
- Do not cut the corner
