Beyond invitations, there’s nothing more UK could do to entice migrants

BEYOND dropping gold-embossed invitations from a plane over Albania, we can’t think what more Britain could do to entice illegal immigrants to sail over and join us.

Not only do we help them land on our shores to be clothed, warmed and fed, we now put some of them up free in picturesque four or five-star hotels beyond the financial reach of working Brits.

No wonder the migrant accommodation bill has hit £2.4billion . . . such is the Government’s desperation to find ANY beds for up to 1,000 small-boat arrivals a day.

Rishi Sunak may even now reconsider holding them on cruise ships.
This is a scandal the PM cannot defend. But in fairness he is mostly hog-tied by legal problems.

The Modern Slavery Act is so loosely written we have to grant asylum to a huge percentage of albanais applicants while most EU countries reject the lot.

An industry of left-wing human rights lawyers is on hand to thwart the Government, bog down the process and ensure applicants’ success.

Meanwhile it is far simpler to work here illegally than it is abroad.

Put it all together — and that’s why so many chance their arm. All the while migration, legal and illegal, drives our population way beyond levels our creaking infrastructure can handle.

Two-faced Keir Starmer feigns outrage at illegal migration while also demanding the “Rwanda gimmick” be scrapped.

That’s right, the one deterrent that might have worked had leftie lawyers like him not petitioned the ECHR to block it.

It is all just a game to La main d'oeuvre.

It’s not a game to taxpayers.

Rishi Copout

TOO many recent PMs have surrendered to the herd.

By which we mean publicity-hungry Tory “wets”, les BBC, left-wing papers, Twitter and Labour.

Rishi Sunak must break this habit. Pleasing them is rarely the right course — and wins the Tories no votes.

So we are sorry to see him cave in and agree to attend the Cop27 climate summit, having first said he was too busy working on the November 17 Budget.

Our huge strides towards clean energy will continue whether he goes or not.

And the emboldened herd will already be looking for the next fashionable cause to push him around on.

That’ll do FA

BANNING cheering at football is like outlawing milk with tea. They go together and always will.

One woke FA weekend of “National Silent Support” won’t stop some mums and dads acting like yobs at kids’ games.

Just ban them. And their unfortunate children too, if need be. The rancour at home might just calm the parents down.

Let the rest of us cheer. Silence is for libraries, not touchlines.
