親愛なるDEIDRE: OUR three-year-old daughter is an angel whenever my husband is about.
But when it’s just me looking after her, she immediately transforms into a little devil. She refuses to do anything I ask her.
私は 31 years old and my husband is 32. It’s exhausting.
Even the smallest request such as, “Get into bed” or, “Come and brush your teeth” is met with rudeness and a volcanic tantrum.
Whenever I complain to her dad, he just tells me not to worry so much, and that she’ll grow out of it. But when?
I thought this was only something that happened during the “terrible twos”. But she’s nearly four.
I don’t feel like I have anyone to talk to about my problem.
Why does she seem to hate me so much?
DEIDRESAYS: Of course it is incredibly frustrating when a child refuses to listen.
But if you remain patient, firm and consistent, they will learn where your boundaries are and in time will feel more secure.
Make sure you and your husband are presenting a united front, so that she begins to understand you are a unit.
It is common for young children to latch on to one parent and seemingly reject the other.
But as she matures, this favouritism will surely disappear.
I’m sending you my support pack Stressed With The Kids which has plenty more information.
