Quando será retomado o julgamento de Johnny Depp e Amber Heard?

Having begun on April 11, 2022 in Fairfax, Virgínia, a $50 million case follows Depp’s attempt to sue Ouviu for libel over a 2018 article she wrote in The Washington Post.

His lawyers suggest the op-ed falsely implies he physically and sexually abused her.

Heard has denied all accusations.

The case has been available to view in the US and the UK on YouTube and Court TV, but is currently engaged in a 10-day break.

It will resume on May 16 às 9 da manhã.

Why is there a week’s break in the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial?

Judge Penney Azcarate informed both sides and the jury at the start of the trial that she had a scheduling conflict due to a conference this week.

Court proceedings have been kept particularly punctual by Judge Azcarate, a former active-duty US marine, and graduate of Old Dominion University and the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University.

Up until now, proceedings would begin at 10am each day with a 15-minute break in the morning and a lunch lasting between one and two hours.

They’d have another 15-minute break in the afternoon, and the trial would usually adjourn for the day at around 5pm.

When the trial resumes, court proceedings will begin one hour earlier at 9am each day.

When is the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial verdict?

Depp is arguing that Heard defamed him in a December 2018 op-ed published in The Washington Post titled “I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change”.

After three and a half weeks of testimony and video deposition from employees, amigos, and other witnesses, as well as the actor himself, his lawyers have rested their case.

Defence testimony began on May 4 with a psychologist countering previous allegations regarding Heard’s mental health, before she took the stand herself.

Heard and her lawyers will be hoping to make gains during the 10-day break as it comes half way through her testimony.

Jury consultant Richard Gabriel told NBC News: “What we hear last really does stick with us,” adding that jurors will now sit for more than a week having listened to Heard’s account of the alleged abuse by Depp.

While trials in Virginia usually run Monday through Thursday, Judge Azcarate is making an exception to make up for time lost during the 10-day break.

She is scheduling closing arguments for Friday 27 Maio.
