A DOG owner guarded by his pooch for 36 hours after he fell 200ft down a ravine yesterday declared: “She saved my life.”
Martyn Clark, 76, was thrilled to be reunited with Suki after a month in hospital with multiple injuries.
Flinging his arms around her, él dijo: “I wouldn’t be here now if it wasn’t for her.”
He slammed into a boulder in a stream and lay seriously injured.
Martyn recalled: “I was drifting in and out of consciousness. Suki pushed her cold nose against my face and was staring into my eyes.
“I think she knew how desperate things were getting. She looked at me as if to say, ‘What the heck did you do that for?’”
She kept leaving to search for help and returning, but heard voices after 36 horas.
Martyn said: “I saw her ears prick up and she was gone. There was blood coming from my head and I remember seeing leeches. I thought I’d end up found with them all over me.”
Walker Tom Wykes, 57, and family came to help Martyn, who broke his shoulder and collarbone. Mountain rescuers carried him back up.
