SHOCKING pictures show the aftermath of a huge garden fire that forced 40 people to be evacuated from their homes.
The blaze erupted in the backyard of a house in Chelmsford, Essex, anoche.
It quickly spread to a group of conifer trees as flames tore their way through the residential street.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service had to evacuate 40 people from their homes as a precaution.
They confirmed the cause of the fire is still under investigation but warned Brits against having barbecues due to the recent heatwave leaving the ground “extremely dry”.
Alrededor 15 houses have been affected by the fire as well as multiple sheds and outbuildings.
Seven people were also treated for injuries and smoke inhalation.
Dramatic pictures show charred possessions left in one garden – including a blackened bath tub and furniture.
The conifer trees have also been stripped bare following the blaze with fences left ruined.
Area Manager, Neil Fenwick, dicho: “While summer weather usually provides the perfect opportunity to host a barbecue or gather around a chiminea in the evening, we’re strongly discouraging people from having any kinds of fires at the moment.

“The ground across Essex is extremely dry allowing fires to spread easily and quickly. This is true for gardens as well as fields and heathland.
“Please help us to help you. Please don’t have barbecues or bonfires. Please don’t use fireworks or set off sky lanterns.
“Doing so could cause a large scale fire like the one we’ve seen this evening.”
