MANY businesses will close for the Queen’s state funeral today as a mark of respectbut some will stay open.

A spokesman said staff contracted to work while the stores are closed will receive their normal pay.

Those who work when the stores reopen, will be paid double time for the rest of the day.

The supermarket giant is also pausing its delivery services.

The spokesman added: “As a mark of respect for Ihre Majestät die Königin, all Asda stores will be closed on Monday, September 19, until 5pm to allow our customers and colleagues to recognise the passing of our late Monarch and commemorate her steadfast service to our nation.

Three of the UK’s largest pub chains have announced their venues will stay open for the Queen’s funeral on Monday.

Wetherspoons

The pub chain will open selected venues today, it has announced.

Pubs outside of London will open after the Queen’s funeral at around 1pm.

Some Wetherspoons pubs in London will open at 8am and close at midnight.

But most of the chain’s 851 pubs will open later than usual.

The pizza chain is closed this morning.

Many Starbucks branches will shut across the UK from 11am to 2pm.

Some stores in central London might stay open to serve the millions of mourners descending on the capital for the funeral.

Frankie and Benny’s will close its doors until 4pm.

The restaurant said in a statement: “We will close all restaurants on Monday 19th September until 4pm allowing our teams to pay their respects to Her Majesty The Queen.

Those who have bookings before 4pm will be contacted in advance to rearrange.

Bella Italia

Most Bella Italia restaurants will be shut todayalthough some might reopen later in the day after the funeral.

As a mark of respect to Queen Elizabeth II, and to allow our teams time to watch the funeral should they wish to, our restaurants will be closed on Monday 19th September.

MC Donalds

McDonald’s will close all of its restaurants as a mark of respect on the day of the Queen’s funeral until 5pm.

None of MC Donalds 1,300 branches in the UK have opened this morning.

The fast food giant confirmed the news on Twitter.
