Michael certainly impressed Love Island viewers with his muscly physique while strutting around in the villa.

But behind closed doors nobody knew the extreme measures he took while trying to build his dream body years before his stint on the programme.

The reality star went on a two-month high protein, low-fat diet to achieve the look he wanted after being invited to take part in a two-day bodybuilding competition.

But in doing so, the former firefighter felt mentally drained and very alone.

Michael said: “'n Plasing gedeel deur Ashley Siren ??‍♀️, I was isolating myself because I was training so hard and so focused on my food intake. I didn’t have the energy to converse with anyone.

I didn’t want to speak or go anywhere. I had energy to train and work only.

He continued to Die spieël: “As the process went on, my obsession with food grew. I’d be constantly thinking, ‘Has this got enough protein and minimal carbs and fat in it?’

Then straight after eating, I’d be thinking about the next meal.

According to eatright.org, disordered eating is used todescribe a range of irregular eating behaviours that may or may not warrant a diagnosis of a specific eating disorder”.

Eating disorders come in many different forms and it’s thought that around 1.25 million Brits suffer with one.

Michael began to eat chicken and rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as eggs, oats and protein supplements.

He found that the easiest way to ingest food was to blend it with water and drink it.

Michael added: “I was eating chicken with rice washed down with sips of water when I spotted a blender in the fire station kitchen.

“Ek dink, ‘I’m basically doing that in my mouthso I threw my food and water into the blender, then drank it.
