A RESCUE effort is underway for a man trapped under debris after a roof collapsed on three people in Chicago.
The Chicago Fire Department has confirmed one fatality.
Two other victims have been transported to Stroger Hospital in “serious to critical” condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
The deceased victim was trapped under “heavy stone debris.”
Dozens of firefighters responded to the scene. Crews were working through the debris with tools to free the trapped victims, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
The partial collapse occurred on Jackson Boulevard near South Homan Avenue.
Chicago Police told CBS Chicago reporter Shardaa Gray the three victims were sitting on the porch when the collapse occurred.
Multiple media outlets are reporting that this was a “partial building collapse,” indicating that it may not have been solely the roof.
The three-story residence is located on the West Side of Chicago.
