Hy het gesê: “I think there’s a gap for Saturday vibes. There’s a lot of great Saturday TV, but there’s a lot of cooking stuff going on Saturdays.

“It’s going to be bringing some comedy to the mornings. Life in general could do with a bit more comedy at the moment.

“With The Big Breakfast, it’s quite fun and quite silly and just a great wake-up call.”

Throwing down the gauntlet to another pair of morning telly fav- ourites, Mo bygevoeg: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, you could never!”

Phile Gayle — who returns as newsreader — agrees about the number of food series and said: “You can only have so many cookery shows on a Saturday morning.”

As well as Phil, Judi Liefde will be interviewing guests in the On The Bed interview, en Melvin Odoom and Harriet Rose hit the streets playing Hot Sausage with members of the public.

The original 1990s show was hosted by Chris Evans, — now a Virgin Radio DJ — with Gaby Roslin and Paula Yates.

AJ and Mo’s one-off Big Breakfast special in September won a Royal Television Society award for best entertainment performance as part of Channel 4’s Black To Front project to boost Black representation in the TV industry.

AJ has been talking about the show’s legacy with former hosts Zoe Ball en Denise van Outen — who will appear as a guest this weekend.

Sy het gese: “I worked with Denise on Cooking With The Stars, and she was just so complimentary of the special and the show.

“She said it was the best show ever to work on, and Zoe said she loved working on it too.”

Intussen, Phil is finding the new format is different for him, as he is based in its new house studio, and not a remote location, as he was before.

Hy het gesê: “To be in the middle of everything is just so weird.

“It’s the same show, the same vibe, but has completely different people. And it still works.”

But then, it always did make weirdness work.

  • The Big Breakfast is at 10am on Saturdays, from this weekend, on C4.
