WORDLE players have been issued a warning as copycat versions of the game on the app store could be malicious scams.
The simple word-guessing game is the newest social media and pop culture phenomenon.
The game is simple, players are tasked with guessing a five-letter word, with only six attempts.
After each guess, the tiles change colors to show which letters are not in the word (gray), which letters are in the word but in the wrong position (Gelb) and which ones are correctly in the word and in the correct place (Grün).
The app started picking up steam in October, and as of Monday, it has more than 2.7million players, founder Josh Wardle told NPR.
jedoch, as the game grew in popularity, copycat versions began appearing on the app stores for Apfel and Android users.
The clone Wordle games are reportedly filled with ads and could be malicious scams.
Gemäß The Verge, Apple has pulled the Wordle clones from App Store.
