Klopp started out as a striker, but his 6ft 4in height saw his skills best utilised in defence.

Seeing his floppy blond hair pinging towards the ball from set pieces was an all-too common sight for fans.

The Bundesliga have charted his top five goals from his career.

Two are headers with three being volleys – and the one that ranked in at No1 was something very special.

Klopp was brought on as a substitute in a home game against Meppen in season 1997/98.

He opened the scoring in the 73rd minute with an absolute worldie.

The Stuttgart-born star collected ball at a tight angle on the edge of the box.

He controlled the ball, saw it bounce back up to him before letting fly from 40-or-so yards out to send the ball crashing into the back of the net.

That would set his team en route to a 3-0 win.

Klopp retired from football in 2001, and was soon appointed the team’s new manager.

He guided the minnows into the Bundesliga for the first time ever in 2004.

The 54-year-old made big waves when he took over at Borussia Dortmund in 2008.

He won the Bundesliga in 2010/11 and successfully defended that title the following season.

And of course he led Liverpool to their first Premier League title for 30 years in 2020.
