Woman dies in house fire after two others escape deadly blaze at Birmingham home

A WOMAN has died after a fire broke out at a house in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters rushed to the scene of the “severe blaze” in Smethwick in the east Midlands, as a man and a woman managed to escape from the house.

However, a woman – believed to be in her 30s – was taken to hospital where she died.

Crews arrived at the two-storey house in Harvest Road, at around 4.30am this morning (Saturday).

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: “We attended a severe house fire at around 4.30am.

“One man and two women were in the house. Two people left of their own accord. One lady was rescued but later died in hospital.

“The house was destroyed by the fire. An investigation is currently ongoing into the cause.”
